1st Renshinkai Closed Karate Tournament
12th December 2004

Renshinkai held the 1st Renshinkai Closed Karate Tournament held on Sunday 12th December 2004, at the Thornton Heath Leisure Centre, 100 High Street, Thornton Heath, Surrey, CR7 8LF.

This event was open to any Renshinkai Stylist. The clubs that supported the event were, Renshinkai Southern Academy, Renshinkai Beckenham and Renshinkai Eastern Academy. The event was well represented, with over 90 competitors taking part for top medals on the day. They travelled with their supporters from all over London and Kent to make a great atmosphere at the Tournament.

The event, which should have started at 10am, was delayed due to administration and it finally got on the way at 11am with the kata sections. When this was completed we then proceeded to the kumite sections. The standard of fighting continued in spectacular form.

It was noticed that there were a lack of referees and this hindered the smooth running of the event and this lead to the cancellation of some team sections at the end of the tournament. However, the coaches, parents and spectators must be congratulated for their efforts in attending the event and making it a success. Many of the spectators commented on how they enjoyed the day and wanted to know when the next event will take place.

The next event will be a training course early in the New Year and it is hoped that all Renshikai students would attend. These events are for the students to gain a sound foundation to develop in the martial arts. RENSHINKAI – STRENGTH IN UNITY.
